about

It's New Year's Eve.
In the city of Southampton an American sailor disembarks from a visiting US aircraft carrier. He's looking forward to a night on dry land but can't shake the memory of a girl he met back home before his ship set sail. Two hour's drive away in London, Maria is shaking off her tiredness after a long restaurant shift and she's waiting at a station turnstile for a friend. She's thinking of her parents in Peru, but the lights of the city are are calling. Salsa, she's thinking. Tonight it's Salsa. Later, on her way down the escalator she sees a young man checking his pockets for change. He looks back at her for an instant then he returns to his thoughts. After months of low-paid work, he's thinking of going home. Five thousand miles away in they're preparing for New Year's eve in San Francisco and back in England, a middle aged man dreams of that sweet iconic city and of the days he spent there, chasing the ghosts of Ginsberg and Kerouac an age of software millionaires.
New Year's eve. It's a night to look forward and and night to look back. Or maybe it's just a night to dance. Maria pays her money goes into, a club and buys a drink.
The world, she thinks, is at her feet.
